UNDER-16's CHASE GLORY

Penzance's Jets team, who enjoyed a very successful season in the Cornwall Youth League Under-16s Premiership, conclude their campaign this afternoon when they face Newquay Rangers in the League Cup final.

The Peppermints pipped Penzance for second place behind champions Bodmin Town only on goal difference in the League. Meetings between the two sides were tight. Goals from Logan Curnow and Dom Hodges could not prevent Newquay winning their home fixture 3-2. In the return at Penlee Park, Hodges was again on target alongside Lewis Stephens as his side twice came from behind to force a 2-2 draw, so another close encounter is anticipated. Sadly though Hodges will be unavailable for the final having sustained a broken leg a fortnight ago.

The striker, alongside Daniel May, Ashley Mead and Charlie Palmer, broke into the Penzance first team during the course of the past season. Furthermore, Logan Curnow and Levi Hilling, a mid-season signing from Illogan RBL, were capped by Cornwall as the Jets enjoyed a fine campaign under the guidance of Justin Stephens, Neil Curnow and Brian Scoffin.

“Newquay have a very strong squad with a lot of talented players”, says Justin Stephens, looking forward to the final. “Our lads are really looking forward to the challenge that awaits them and are determined to get some reward for all their hard work. They saw their team-mate Dom Hodges pick up a nasty injury two weeks ago, and we all wish him a strong and speedy recovery. We would welcome as much support on the day as possible”.

Kick-off is 2.30pm at Porthleven’s Gala Parc ground, so please come along and cheer the young Magpies on to Cup success.
