Three goals in the final ten minutes saw Penzance defeated in their second pre-season run-out on a pleasant evening at Lelant Saltings.
James Payne had to deputise in goal for the depleted Magpies, and his string of fine saves was the main reason Penzance made it to the break on level terms. The closest the visitors came to scoring was when Ewan Trevains dipped a shot just over shortly before the turn-around.
On his first appearance since a horrid head injury sustained at Frogpool at the end of last season, Tyler Smith enjoyed an impressive 45 minutes up front. He was, however, replaced by Connor Thomas at the break, and the substitute broke the deadlock after 68 minutes, skilfully controlling a bobbling ball before clipping a shot into the far corner of the net.
Ross Duncan deftly lobbed St Ives level twelve minutes from time before bagging a second moments later. He completed his hat-trick just before the final whistle to ice the cake for the home team. The sides will meet again next month, at Penlee Park, on the opening day of the St Piran League campaign.
