After last week’s thrilling victory at Dobwalls, their first on the road this season, Penzance will try to maintain the momentum this afternoon when Newquay visit Penlee Park for a Kitchen Kit South West Peninsula League fixture (kick-off 3pm). The occasion will mark the second Jewson day of the season, the club’s main sponsor welcoming its guests to the ground for what should be an entertaining match.
After his come-back as a late substitute in the closing stages of the Lantoom Park win, Liam Andrew will be joined by Mark Vercesi who also makes a welcome return from injury. The central defensive duo are joined in the squad by Will Trenoweth, Archie Reynolds, Silas Sullivan, Alfie Turner, James Butler, Ollie Butler, Charlie Willis, Kam Collins, Tyler Tonkin (captain), Rolandos Samnauskas, Gareth Ireson-Ward, Darryl Richards, Jacob Trudgeon and Freddie Neaum.
Newquay beat Penzance 2-1 earlier this season with a Matt Sanders header deep into injury-time. Peppermints boss Shaun Middleton will choose his side from Brodie Cole, Scott Flannigan, Ryan Beer, Callum Edlin, Sanders, Harry Downing, Oliver Butterworth, Cam Turner, Ross Fallens, Tom Moxham, Josh Evans, Jay Davie, Phil Lowry, Harry Tilston, Coen Briggs, Alex Cole (captain), Louis Price, Tom Shepherd, Ewen Travers, Rudi Scott, Ted Blatchford and Sonny Toms.
“The players have to be the best versions of themselves on the pitch today,” says Penzance manager Ashley Waters. “With nine games left, there are still lots of points to play for. After last week’s victory at Dobwalls, we have a chance now to go on a run and finish the last part of the season with positivity and hopefully move up the table.”
Admission is £5 (concessions £3) and the gates open at around 2.15pm. Drinks and refreshments, including hot pasties, will be available from the Black & White Cafe inside the ground. The Jewson Bar will be open from around midday. The matchday programme – the Magpie Review – will also be on sale for £1.50 providing pre-match reading.
See you there!
