Penzance's Under-18s bounced back from the Rathbone Cup defeat at St Blazey by recording a comfortable win in their league opener, against Dropship at Penlee Park.
The match was only three minutes old when the young Magpies bagged their first, Sid Wilson turning home the rebound after a Freddie Neaum shot had been saved. The lead was doubled with a fine team goal. Ewan Trevains released Neaum down the right flank, and the latter threaded a pass to Wilson who notched his second of the game.
With a gale force wind behind then, Penzance were irrepressible. Fin Sharp curled home a fine goal before Wilson waltzed around Dropship keeper Kieran Noon to complete his hat-trick – all this within 17 minutes of kick-off.
There was a bit of a lull until, from a Hayden Waters cross, Fin Harry forced Noon into a good save eight minutes after the break. Trevains and Harry then both went close, and Noon pulled off another fine save from Logan Curnow, before the Magpies finally got their fifth goal, eleven minutes from time. Wilson squared the ball from the right to Sharp who rapped home his second of the afternoon, shortly before coming off injured. With a heavily deflected shot from the edge of the area, Rhys Hall concluded the scoring five minutes before the final whistle.
Hat-trick hero, Sid Wilson.
