Playing at home, Penzance Reserves showed resilience to come from behind and secure an important victory over West Cornwall, picking up three valuable points in their push up the table writes James Hall...
The opening exchanges were cagey, with both midfields battling for control. Hayden Waters tested Callum Richards early on, while Monty Cloutman saw a speculative effort drift wide at the other end. Several dangerous crosses flashed across goal, but neither side could find the finishing touch.
Just before the break, West Cornwall struck the opener, Ben Kellow rolling his shot past Adrian Murley to put the visitors ahead. With chances at both ends, it was a goal that had been coming.
Penzance responded well after the interval, stepping up their intensity. Ten minutes into the second half after great work down the right by Jacob Tridgeon, Ollie Butler showed cool composure in the box, sitting his marker down before shifting onto his left foot and rolling in the equaliser.
The home side looked the stronger of the two from that point forward. The turnaround was completed in the 67th minute when Kizzy Snowden fired home a low-driven finish to put Penzance ahead. From there, the hosts managed the game well, limiting West Cornwall’s chances and seeing out a deserved win.
“A tough game today where our character and resolve were truly tested,” said Manager Daz Smith. “The lads put a shift in, and I felt the work rate and attitude were top drawer. Overall, I felt we deserved the win, especially in the second half where we retained possession a lot better whilst always looking dangerous going forward.” “Ollie is a quality player, and he linked up well with everyone going forward,” added Coach Henry Ramsay. “I think the same applies to Kizzy's goal—it was great teamwork all around. It's a testament to how hard the boys have been working.”
