Despite a spirited fight back from three goals down, Penzance Reserves came up just short in an entertaining friendly against local rivals Ludgvan on Monday night.
Visiting keeper Andrew Curnow made a superb double save from Kizzie Snowden’s shot, then Sam Payne’s follow-up, in the early stages. His side profited by going ahead when Josh Findlay powered a corner past stand-in Magpies keeper Harvey Richings.
Will Wallis bagged Ludgvan’s second with a close range tap-in before Henry Cozens rounded Richings to make in three. However, before the break Penzance got a toe hold back in the game when Kizzie Snowden made a forceful thrust through the visiting defence enabling Joe Gordon to beat Curnow with a skilful dink.
Penzance’s improvement continued throughout the second half but yielded no reward until seven minutes from time when Freddie Neaum teed up Snowden to slam home a shot from the edge of the penalty area. This set up a grandstand finish with Ashley Mead fizzing an effort just over, but the Hurlers held on for a narrow win.
Penzance: Harvey Richings, Matt Robinson, Henry Ramsay, Josh Reeves, Steve Miller, Tyler Smith, Sam Payne, Ewam Trevains, Adam Lewis, Joe Gordon, Kizzie Snowden. Subs (all used): Jordan Rimington, Connor Thomas, Freddie Neaum, Ilhan Kaya, Ashley Mead
