Penzance started brightly and took an early lead in the fourth minute writes James Hall.

Jacob Trudgeon, expertly set up by Curtis Smith, fired across the Millbrook goalkeeper to put the Magpies ahead. Trudgeon continued to look dangerous, creating another opportunity just six minutes later, twisting and turning before delivering a cross for Smith, whose chest control let him down as he couldn’t get a shot off.

The Magpies came close again in the 25th minute, as Smith fired over from long range after good strength from Charlie Willis and, two minutes later, Smith missed another chance, blazing over after being played in by Trudgeon. Millbrook’s response came in the 32nd minute when Adam Beardsmore headed home the equaliser from a well-delivered cross following a quickly taken short corner. Just before the break, in stoppage time, Charlie Willis scuffed a shot wide after a pinpoint cross from Archie Reynolds, leaving the game all square at half-time.

After the break, Penzance nearly regained the lead in the 54th minute, but Silas Sullivan’s header was blocked off the line by a Millbrook defender. Curtis Smith then fired narrowly wide in the 59th minute, but the breakthrough came in the 66th when Sullivan pounced on a parried Charlie Willis shot, firing home a dipping half-volley to put Penzance back in front. The Magpies sealed the win in the 80th minute when Smith found the net after a well-timed assist from Trudgeon, his first goal of the match.

Penzance managed to hold firm and secure a deserved 3-1 victory with a solid performance under-pinned by hard work and energy. “It was a difficult first half, but I think we made some improvements second half using our energy up front well. A lot of hard work was put in by the team today, but I was particularly pleased to see Curtis and Trudgeon get a goal each, and Silas proving that hard work gets you your just rewards,” said Penzance manager Mark Vercesi.
