NEWQUAY 5, PENZANCE 1

The afternoon began with the Newquay Town Crier welcoming all and sundry to Mount Wise and inviting everyone to respect the two minutes silence marking Remembrance weekend.

Penzance then kicked off attacking the clubhouse end and Jacob Trudgeon immediately forced a corner which was quickly taken by Charlie Willis and neatly headed in from six yards by Liam Andrew. Willis soon stole the ball again, a short mazy run ending with a mild shot saved by keeper Brodie Cole.

The Magpies' midfield quartet of Kameron Collins, Sam Young, Willis and Trudgeon were impressive in their attempts at thwarting any serious Newquay attacks. On 20 minutes Curtis Smith, from the edge of the penalty area, took a free kick with the outside of his left boot through a space in the wall only for Cole to parry around the post for a corner.

Just after half an hour, Smith won the ball in his own half and, following a quick interchange with Willis, supplied Lewis Caspall who in turn found Trudgeon who cut in and shot at the keeper.

Collins was yellow carded for an unnecessary obstruction on Newquay skipper Ryan Downing. From the resulting free kick, Cam Turner fired the equaliser into the top corner of the net. This seemed to stir the home side up and within minutes they were 2-1 in front thanks to a Louis Price shot that appeared to swerve just in front of Mikey Flores.

Newquay came out second half full of their new found confidence and, five minutes in, a fine overhead kick from Price that went unchallenged made it 3-1. Darryl Richards came on, replacing Collins, but he was soon back off the pitch - sin binned after a remark to the referee following a further Newquay goal - a superb strike by substitute Josh Evans.

On his return to the field Richards, after a quick one-two with Caspall, fired into the side netting. Back at the other end, Newquay notched their fifth goal when Flores stayed on his line following a Louis Price shot-come-cross allowing Jack Bray-Evans to score.

There were a couple of late Penzance efforts. Substitute Jude Tripconey lamely mishit after a driving Ryan Townson run from midfield, and Liam Andrew fired over.

So Penzance's 12 month unbeaten away run came to an untimely end. The usually parsimonious defence was found out by a rejuvenated home side. Blips happen, and

next week there is a chance to put things right when the Magpies travel to Camelford with forward Charlie Young returning following suspension.
