Three goal scorers, third clean sheet, and three points (writes Penzance Reserves joint Manager, Daz Smith)...
On Saturday our lads headed to Mawnan Smith for our return league fixture.
Hoping to get another 3 points, we welcomed Harvey back from university, whilst Sharpy was unwell, and Ollie and Kai were both unavailable.
Our starting line up consisted of Harvie in goal, a back four of Lewis, Sam, Steve, and Matt.
A midfield trio of Ewan, Reevesy and Joel, with Tyler and Adam on the wings leaving Kizzy as a solo striker.
Whilst on the bench was Henry, Payno, Chaz, Harvey and Connor.
A minutes applause took place prior to kick off in memory of Harvies dad who sadly passed away recently.
A quick start was the orders from management as we looked to replicate our recent form.
With a lumpy sloping pitch and a cross wind to contend with, this would play a massive part in the game.
Fortunately after just 2 minutes, Matt Robinson picked up a poorly cleared corner and shot from near on 30 yards. His looping shot caught the Mawnan keeper by surprise and sent us one nil up giving us the perfect start.
However, quite honestly that was about the best moment in the first half in a very scrappy stop start game. We couldn't get going and over hit a lot of our through balls, whilst never really stringing much together.
Half time came and we asked the players to up their game as one nil was too close and a goal for Mawnan would make things uncomfortable.
Whilst the second half was better, it was only just better. We created a few more chances but we were made to wait for our second goal...
With the game seeming to swing in Mawnans favour, substitutions were made... Harvey replaced Adam on the left wing whilst Payno replaced Sam. Henry replaced Steve, and Chaz replaced Tyler, before Connor replaced Joel.
Fortunately it didn't take Harvey long to affect the game, as he popped up at the back post and slammed his side volley into the net thanks to some nice build up play from our midfield.
And with just two minutes left to play the ball broke down the right wing and saw Chaz "the Polish wonderkid" race through for a one on one with the Mawnan keeper.
Chaz cooly sat the Mawnan keeper down before dinking his effort over the keeper at the near post sealing another three points for the Reserves.
Full time.
Whilst yesterday by our own admission we were far from our best, it was nice to underperform and still manage to come away with a three nil win.
Harvie and our defence managed to keep a third consecutive clean sheet and we had three different goal scorers.
Sadly, after the game we learnt that keeper Harvie had broken his finger during the game, and will be out for the foreseeable future, which couldn't have come at a worse time with champions to be New Inn Titans in town next weekend.
Full Time Result:
Mawnan Reserves 0-3 Penzance Reserves
