ALIENS CLINCH TITLE

Writer: Penzance AFCPenzance AFC

Congratulations to our Under-12 Aliens side who secured the title in the Championship West Division of the Cornwall Youth League by virtue of a 2-0 win at Troon on Saturday March 22nd.

Undefeated all season, the Aliens - managed by Jamie Mooney and coached by Steve Miller – were victorious at Grouter Park thanks to goals from Kirby Savidge and Teddy Devine-Gibson. Man of the Match was Elijah Hall, younger brother of Jahmali Prowse who has broken into the Magpies first team this season, who selflessly marked Troon’s most dangerous player out of the game.

As well as Kirby, Teddy and Elijah, the Aliens championship winning squad also comprised Noah George, Hector Devenney, Jai Scotter, Reece Pearce, Charlie Hicks, Sammy Browne, Cody Findlay, Kai Frost, Jokubas Jazbutis, Riley Mooney, Reggie Steadman and Harris Lowell.

“It is my first season in charge of the Aliens, and they have all gelled together,” says manager Mooney, who inherited eleven players but bolstered the complement to sixteen during the campaign. “I can see a big improvement as a whole. That is due to the lads putting the work in on the pitch”.  The step up to Under-13s next season will see the Aliens graduate to eleven-aside football, so further reinforcement will be beneficial.

Having beaten Troon 6-1 at Newlyn Coombe a fortnight ago, the Aliens are also through to their League Cup final in which they will play Wendron United on May 6th. Details of the venue and kick-off time will be circulated in due course.

Congratulations to all the players and Jamie and Steve on a fantastic season!
